Easy Directions to Measuring a Room:
Example (.pdf)
1.Using a pencil, sketch a rough rectangle, mark each door and window and closets or any break or projections of the walls( do not worry about scale) .
2. First measure the total width and length of the room. Then start in one corner and measure, with a tape measure each wall, window, projection and doors.
All measurements should add up to total length and width across room.
Write these on the drawing.
For doors and windows measure from opening to opening and include the molding. Be sure and show all radiators, heat vents, any built-ins or fireplaces.
Also locate any switches, outlets, telephone outlets, internet outlets, TV outlets and ceiling fixtures or fans.
3. Measure the heights of each wall and window and label height off the floor, label door heights, crown and baseboard heights and even locate wall sconces and their height off the floor.
